Most women who have just given birth have nightmares involving their baby. A recent study showed that this number might be as high as two thirds. This is probably because new mommies are under intense pressure (both physical and emotional) to care for their infants. It is usually a surprise to new moms that their babies are so totally helpless and dependant on them.
Their job of caring for the infant is literally a matter of life or death and dreams often reflect that pressure. Also sleep deprivation adds fuel to the terrifying nightmares. Luckily, the nightmares go away after a few months because the new baby gets stronger and the new mother gains more confidence in her ability to meet the needs of her baby.
